If the bodies of a Hindu and a Muslim cannot be told apart, how are shrouding and burial to be done?
Question
A fire broke out in a house in which there were a Hindu and a Muslim; both were burned so that neither of them could be identified at all. How, then, are their funeral prayer (salat al-janaza), shrouding (kafan) and burial to be carried out?
Answer
If there is no way of identifying them, then both should be washed and shrouded, placed together in front, and the funeral prayer performed, with the intention (niyya) being made for the funeral of the Muslim.
