Shrouding a Muslim with a non-Muslim’s money
Question
Is money given by a non-Muslim for the deceased Muslim Zayd permissible or impermissible? The deceased has no heir at all. How far is this correct in such a situation? This man had been in continuous employment for four years; his lodging, food and drink were arranged there.
Answer
If the deceased Muslim has no heir and some non-Muslim has given money for his shrouding and burial, then spending that money on the deceased’s shrouding and burial is correct according to the Shari‘a. The Muslims, however, ought to arrange this themselves and not ask a non-Muslim.
