Washing the deceased with new earthen pitchers

Question

As is the custom in India, the deceased is washed with new, unused earthen pitchers and spouted ablution jugs. Can he not be washed with the pitchers, buckets and ablution jugs of our own houses? What was the practice in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Companions?

Answer

This Indian custom has no basis and ought to be abandoned.
