Which way the feet should face when washing the deceased, and the ruling on an animal slaughtered by one who does not observe istinja
Question
What is the method of washing the dead? If the lahd is dug east–west, which way should the head and feet be? And if the lahd is dug south–north, which way should the head and feet be? A man who does not dry [himself] after istinja — can such a person slaughter an animal [so that it becomes] halal, or not? He is, moreover, not observant of the Sacred Law.
Answer
For washing the deceased, whatever way is convenient is proper: if [the orientation] is east–west, the feet may also be placed towards the east; if it is north–south, it is appropriate to place the feet towards the south. The slaughter of every Muslim is valid, provided he slaughters according to the rule of the Sacred Law.
