Having the deceased washed by mendicant dervishes
Question
Among us it is the custom to have the deceased washed by mendicant dervishes, and they themselves are not granted the tawfiq for prayer and ghusl; they are utterly irreligious, and they are given a considerable fee. Is this practice correct?
Answer
Having the deceased washed by dervishes when they are ignorant [of how to do it] is vile and blameworthy; it is a violation of the right of the deceased. The family of the deceased, the ‘ulama’, should wash him.
