Words of Kufr in Anger: “I Regard People as the Causer of Causes”

Question

During a quarrel Zayd asked ‘Umar, “Do you regard people as the Causer of Causes (musabbib al-asbab), that if you do not take part in the customs they will dismiss you from your job?” ‘Umar blurted out, “Yes, that is what I think.” Now ‘Umar regrets it: a word of kufr was uttered. He repented at that very moment and is deeply remorseful. What should be done now?

Answer

He should repent and seek forgiveness, and exercise caution in future.
