Is It Kufr to Recite “Subhana Rabbiya ’l-Ajim” in Ruku‘?
Question
Is it correct, in the ruku‘ of the prayer, to recite [ar]سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْكَرِيمِ[/ar] instead of [ar]سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ[/ar]? If someone recites “ajim” instead of “al-‘azim”, does he remain within the fold of Islam or not, and how is his iman?
Answer
In the noble hadith it is “subhana rabbiya ’l-‘azim”; reciting “subhana rabbiya ’l-karim” is contrary to the noble hadith. “Ajim” is presumably recited by one who cannot pronounce [the letters] ‘ayn and za’. Reciting thus is wrong, but one does not become a kafir by it, because one who cannot manage to pronounce ‘ayn and za’ is compelled.
