“Vande Mataram”
Question
If in offices and schools there is insistence on reciting “Vande Mataram” (an Indian patriotic song, ‘I bow to thee, Mother’), should it be recited or not?
Answer
What is its meaning? If it is an emblem (shi‘ar) of the disbelievers, then avoiding it is obligatory, and one should, by submitting an application, obtain an exemption by legal means.
