“Even If a Hundred and Twenty-Four Thousand Prophets Say It, I Will Not Obey”
Question
During a quarrel between Khalid and Hamid, Majid came up and told him to make peace. Hamid said, “Even if a hundred and twenty-four thousand prophets come and forbid me, I still will not obey.” Is such a person now to be called a sinner or a kafir? Explain, and be rewarded.
Answer
This sentence is extremely grave; according to the explicit statements of the jurists, it is hard to hold that such a person’s Islam remains intact. Renewal of iman and of marriage should be carried out; he should repent and make a firm covenant with God that no word of this kind — indeed, no act at all — against a prophet of the Pure God will ever issue from him.
