The Claim: “Whenever I Wish, I Cause Rain”
Question
A certain man is extremely devout in worship, yet concerning rain he makes a divine claim: he says, “Whenever I wish, I cause rain, and whenever I wish, I stop it.” What do the scholars think of such a man, and how is prayer behind him — permissible or not?
Answer
This is not a claim of divinity. Had he claimed, “Whenever I wish, I cause rain, and whenever I wish, I stop it — in this only my command runs, not God’s,” then there would indeed be a denial of Allah’s divinity in that particular matter and an attribution of that act of Allah to himself.
