“Allah Praising Himself”
Question
A certain scholar, having recited [ar]الم ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ[/ar], says: “Here Allah is blowing His own trumpet” (lit. “is being his own parrot” — a mocking Urdu idiom for self-praise). What is the status of these words in the Sacred Law?
Answer
It is evident that these words are contrary to the majesty of Allah and indicate extreme mockery and contempt — of the kind by which iman is stripped away and a ruling of apostasy follows. Only that scholar himself can explain his words.
