Is Selling Christian Books Kufr
Question
Zayd belongs to a respected sayyid family and has long been a Congress leader and a preacher. Zayd’s son ‘Umar, having received some Arabic education in various madrasas, began taking small missionary booklets from the Christian mission and distributing them among the people; some time later he formally accepted Christianity, and an announcement of it was published in reputable newspapers. When the townspeople questioned Zayd, he denied it, and a few days later he himself went and brought ‘Umar home.
Answer
The basis for declaring anyone a Muslim or a non-Muslim rests originally on beliefs. Concerning one in whom the fundamental principles of Islam are present, pronouncing a ruling of non-Islam is not easy. To preach and to accept offerings for it is not kufr, nor does a person leave Islam on account of it.
