The Ruling on One Who Believes in Transmigration of Souls

Question

A friend of mine, who runs his business very successfully — so that his mental state cannot be called unsatisfactory — is possessed by the obsession that he has been born before, and even invents some circumstances of that earlier life. In short, he was and is to a considerable extent a believer in transmigration of souls, and says that his next birth will be in the form of a dog. The question is: has this man remained within the fold of Islam or not? And is it proper to sit, rise and mix with him?

Answer

Such an effect arises from bad company and from reading bad books. The best course is to treat him with gentleness and affection. Reading the blessed biography of the Prophet ﷺ, and also the lives and sayings of the pious men of religion, will be beneficial.
