The Ruling on One Who Refuses to Get Up for Prayer

Question

Zayd was roused for prayer — the time has come, will you not go to prayer? — and this was disagreeable to him, since he was asleep, and in that state he said: “I will not go.” In this case is a renewal of iman required or not? And will a renewal of marriage also be needed?

Answer

In such a case neither renewal of iman nor renewal of marriage is required; let him keep repenting and seeking forgiveness. For his intent was not to deny the obligation of prayer, but to refuse to get up at that moment — that is, “I shall pray a little later, once I have finished sleeping.”
