The Causes of Kufr and the Renewal of Iman
Question
In reply to my letter (attached herewith), Hazrat Wala wrote: if a person leaves Islam on account of some word or deed, such a person requires, together with the renewal of iman, also the disavowal of the causes of kufr. Clarification of this is requested: (1) What does the renewal of iman mean, and what is its method? (2) What is meant by the causes of kufr, and what are they? (3) If he has already paid zakat, must it be paid again — given that he has the means?
Answer
(1) Let him utter the kalimah of testimony with his tongue and affirm it with his heart; let him avow that thing whose denial took him out of iman; and if, having left Islam, he adopted for instance Christianity, let him express aversion to it and disavow it. (2)
