The Foundation of Iman
Question
Is merely uttering the kalimah tayyibah with the tongue sufficient to become a complete Muslim? Or must all seven kalimahs be recited? And in either case, must one act with the bodily limbs — the hands and feet, the heart and mind, the eyes and ears — or not? And are the seven kalimahs these: the kalimah tayyibah, the kalimah shahadah, the kalimah tamjid, the kalimah tawhid, the kalimah radd al-kufr and the iman mufassal, or are they some others?
Answer
In the noble hadith it is stated that Islam is built upon five things. The first of them is the testimony to the oneness of Allah and to the messengership, and merely uttering it with the tongue does not suffice so long as there is no affirmation in the heart.
