The Slander Over “Hifz al-Iman”

Question

[ar]سوال: بخدمت اقدس حضرت مولانا المولوی الحافظ الحاج الشاہ اشرف علی صاحب مدت فيوضكم العالیہ۔[/ar] “Question: To the exalted presence of the respected Hazrat Maulana, the Mawlawi, the Hafiz, the Hajji, the Shah, Ashraf Ali — may your lofty beneficence long continue.” After the greeting prescribed by the sunna, it is submitted that the respected Mawlawi Ahmad Raza Khan (a Barelvi) states, and writes concerning you in “Husam al-Haramayn”, that you explained in “Hifz al-Iman” that the knowledge of the unseen (ghayb)

Answer

The answer — from the respected Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi ﵀: Dear and honoured one, may Allah Most High preserve you, as-salamu alaykum. In reply to your letter I state: I have not written this vile notion in any book; indeed, far from writing it, this notion never even crossed my heart.
