Calling someone “illegitimate”
Question
Question: What is the Shari‘a ruling on calling a Muslim “illegitimate” (born of zina)? And what ruling applies to the one who says it?
Answer
It is a sin. If all the conditions are fulfilled, the hadd of qadhf (false accusation of zina) will be carried out on the one who said it. [ar]وَلَوْ قَالَ: يَا وَلَدَ الزِّنَا، أَوْ قَالَ: يَا ابْنَ الزِّنَا، وَأُمُّهُ مُحْصَنَةٌ، حُدَّ؛ لِأَنَّهُ قَذَفَهَا بِالزِّنَا، كَذَا فِي التُّمُرْتَاشِيِّ[/ar] “If he said, ‘O child of zina!’ or said, ‘O son of zina!
