Severing ties with one who makes an accusation of zina

Question

Question: Zayd accused Bakr’s daughter of having had an illegitimate pregnancy aborted. Hearing the rumour, Bakr gathered some people from the neighbourhood and said that this accusation was utterly false and untrue. Thereupon the community council demanded that Zayd produce proof. Zayd stated before the members of the community council: “Earlier some were telling me that they would give testimony, but when I made it known before the biradari (kin community), those who were the proof are not prepared to speak.

Answer

In such a case Zayd will be deemed a liar according to the Sharia, as it is in the Noble Qur’an: [ar]فَإِنْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِالشُّهَدَاءِ فَأُولَئِكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ[/ar] “If they do not bring the witnesses, then it is they who, in the sight of Allah, are the liars.
