When is a present a bribe?
Question
Question: I do the registration of fields and houses. In this connection, after the registration is done people give this humble one some money of their own will, and I do not compel anyone. Is there any sin in taking this money? Will this money be a bribe or not? And may this money be spent on some good cause or not?
Answer
If you have relations with them and exchanging presents was already customary, and moreover in accepting it you do not grant them any undue favour, then it is valid for you to take it; otherwise refrain from taking it.
