Accepting a present from one who does not pay zakat
Question
Question: What is the Shar‘i ruling on eating at an invitation of people who do not pay zakat on their lawful (halal) wealth, and on accepting it if they give some gift or the like?
Answer
One who does not pay zakat although zakat is fard upon him is a grave sinner. Zakat is a debt (dayn) upon him, but because of this his original wealth has not become haram; it is valid to accept his present (hadiyya), gift and invitation.
