Drying a letter with dust after writing it

Question

Question: In a book on tasawwuf by the respected Mawlana Mufti Qudratullah it is written that there is a secret in drying a letter with earth (dust) after writing it. However, he did not disclose the secret. Kindly inform us of this secret.

Answer

Some books state that by this the need written in the letter is fulfilled. This much at least is obvious: if the ink is not dried, there is a fear that it will be smudged by a hand or something else touching it and the writing will be spoiled. In that case the addressee will not be able to read it, and the writer’s purpose will not be achieved.
