Repentance according to the sin

Question

So many sins have been committed that he fears punishment. In such a case, would it be right for him to give away some rupees in charity, or not?

Answer

Giving rupees in charity is pure good, but repentance from sins is necessary, and repentance from each kind of sin will be in accordance with it. For example, if zakat, prayer or fasting are due from him, then making them up (qada) is also obligatory; if he owes someone a financial right, then paying it or having it forgiven is necessary.
