A case to wrongfully entrap someone
Question
Zayd and Mansur are neighbours. To the east of both their houses there is a narrow lane, which also runs north–south, along which the water of the houses on either side flows off in every direction, north and south. Zayd did this: he began to direct all the water towards Mansur’s side; in the lane, that is, in a place he does not own, he set up a toilet, because of which the water of his toilet, and even excrement, began flowing to Mansur’s door.
Answer
Entrapping someone wrongfully by means of a false case is a very great oppression (zulm), whether it is Zayd who does it or Mansur. However, to escape oppression it is correct to adopt such a measure by which the oppressor’s ploy cannot work, but rather he fails.
