Taking part in a festival such as Ram Lila

Question

Is taking part in the Ram Lila (a Hindu religious festival-enactment of the life of Rama) or a festival of this kind permissible or not?

Answer

Taking part in their religious ceremonies is dangerous, unless the aim of taking part is not sightseeing and amusement, nor adding to their splendour, but rather some permissible and commendable purpose.
