The Wife’s Rights in the Case of Her Disobedience

Question

I humbly submit: since this helpless servant has for a long time been distraught and troubled over the matter of his wife out of fear of the Hereafter, he stands in need of your special attention, Hazrat. As I cannot pose my questions without disclosing the true state of affairs and what my heart seeks, I will set out some circumstances briefly and concisely and then ask my questions, so that it is easier to understand the purpose and to answer.

Answer

(1) It is obligatory (wajib) upon the man to order the woman to observe the hijab of the Shariʿa. If the woman does not comply, the man also has the right to give her an appropriate punishment. If the man, despite being able, does not restrain the woman from going without hijab, he will be sinful.
