Remedying the mistreatment of a wife

Question

My sister’s husband used to work at Mazagon Dock (a shipyard in Bombay). For about a year now, who knows what has happened to him: he has resigned from his work, and his way of life (lit. “line”) has also gone bad. He torments his wife a great deal and has thrown her out of the house. She has three small children. At present her condition has become very bad. Therefore I request you, respected sir, to give some advice about this. It will be a true kindness.

Answer

If this condition is due to a physical illness, then have him treated by a traditional physician or a doctor. If it is the effect of bad company, then he should be kept in a good environment and in the company of the righteous. If it is the effect of economic and financial hardship, then he should be helped in that respect. May Allah the Pure improve the situation. Amin.
