A tailor using leftover cloth
Question
Question: For the cloth given to the tailor to be sewn, the fee is agreed beforehand, and the cloth is taken from the customer according to the measurement. If, after sewing, the leftover cloth is returned to the customer, there are three situations: (1) One customer, on receiving the leftover cloth, is pleased and gives his blessings; a second customer, on receiving the leftover cloth, abuses (the tailor)
Answer
The tailor should, when he measures for the cloth, state — having measured — exactly as much as will be used: neither state so little that after sewing (the garment) remains short, nor so much that some is left over and it comes to returning it. However, if something is left over, he should not keep it himself but return it.
