Earnings from medical practice and from teaching
Question
Question: Zayd and ‘Amr both live in a settlement where, until a short while ago, riba (interest) was unheard of, but now dealings in riba have become widespread. Zayd is a teacher at an Islamic madrasa whose income comes only from these same people and from their interest-based business; the madrasa has no other source of income. ‘Amr, alongside a job at the post office, also practises traditional medicine and doctoring. However, both of them are residents of another village.
Answer
The one who is a physician (practitioner of traditional medicine) or a doctor and makes his living from the price of his medicines — there is no need to pry and dig into his affairs; no one has the right to call his income haram without a reason recognised by the Shari‘a.
