Fitting bangles by men and by women without hijab
Question
Question: Many men do the work of fitting bangles. Are these earnings halal or haram, permissible or impermissible? (2) Many women go out without hijab to villages and fit bangles. What is the ruling concerning them? Furthermore, (there is) a woman whose husband has died and whose sons are grown up and in employment, and yet this woman fits bangles without hijab: on whom does the responsibility for this lie? If, supposing, those sons do not give her maintenance (nafaqa), what is the ruling?
Answer
(1) The price of the bangles is halal. Touching the hand, etc., of a non-mahram is impermissible. (2) This trade and wage (ujra) are permissible, whether the sons give maintenance or not. Going without hijab is forbidden, and the responsibility for it lies on that woman herself who goes without hijab.
