Question: (1) Which professions are noble and which are base? Please set them out point by point. (2) Is the profession of weaving cloth noble or base?

Answer

The professions for earning a living are listed in Fatawa ‘Alamgiri (vol. 5, p. 349) in this order: [ar]أَفْضَلُ أَسْبَابِ الْكَسْبِ الْجِهَادُ، ثُمَّ التِّجَارَةُ، ثُمَّ الزِّرَاعَةُ، ثُمَّ الصِّنَاعَةُ، كَذَا فِي الِاخْتِيَارِ شَرْحِ الْمُخْتَارِ.
