Some non-mahrams, and a woman appearing before a non-mahram
Question
What is the ruling on a woman appearing before a non-mahram? Do the husband of the maternal aunt, the husband of the paternal aunt, the sister’s husband, the husband’s younger brother, the husband’s elder brother and the like have the ruling of a mahram or of a non-mahram? What is the divine reproach for breaking the command of the Shari‘a concerning appearing before a non-mahram?
Answer
All of them are non-mahrams. Appearing before them without hijab and laughing and joking with them informally is a cause of grave fitna (temptation). In the noble hadith the husband’s brother has been declared death. An outsider does not have as much boldness as these people have. Hijab from them is obligatory.
