Doing farm work and the like with the knees uncovered

Question

May one do one’s work — for example farm work and the like — with the knees uncovered or not? And what is the ruling on hitching up one’s trousers or waist-wrap out of necessity when wading into a river and the like?

Answer

Although some scholars have permitted it, caution lies in not uncovering the knees.
