Hijab before cousins through paternal and maternal aunts, and others
Question
May a woman appear before the sons-in-law of her paternal aunt and of her maternal uncle, and also before her husband’s sister’s husband, or not? Likewise, the wife has a cousin through her maternal aunt, and cousins through her maternal uncle and paternal aunt: is it necessary to observe hijab before all of them? Likewise, may a woman appear before the husband of her milk maternal aunt or not?
Answer
Hijab is necessary before all of them; they are all non-mahrams. One with whom nikah is permissible at any time — hijab should be observed before him. If there is difficulty because the house is cramped, even then she should not uncover her face; let there be no familiar laughter and joking, and let no seclusion occur in one place.
