The length of the turban
Question
At the time of prayer, most imams wrap some cloth or a kerchief over their cap, and they treat anyone who does not do so with reproach and censure, saying that the imam ought to tie a turban in prayer. How is this action of theirs? If cloth is wrapped over the cap, how long should it be — is there any restriction for it? It is also said that if more than half of the followers in the congregation are wearing turbans and the imam wears a cap, the prayer is makruh?
Answer
Prayer without a turban is correct without karaha, so reproach and censure are bad. Moreover, if a mustahabb act is treated as wajib, then leaving it becomes necessary; therefore in such a situation it is necessary to lead the prayer without a turban from time to time.
