The ruling on the turban

Question

Is tying a turban (ʿimama) a sunna or not? Is it better for the imam to lead the prayer having tied a turban, or without a turban? Nowadays very few people lead the prayer wearing a turban. What is better, and what is the sunna?

Answer

Tying a turban is likewise a sunna of the same kind. Praying and leading the prayer without a turban is correct without karaha. Through persistence (israr), even a mustahabb thing becomes makruh: [ar]قَالَ صَاحِبُ السِّعَايَةِ: الْإِصْرَارُ عَلَى الْمَنْدُوبِ يُبَلِّغُهُ إِلَى حَدِّ الْكَرَاهَةِ[/ar] “The author of al-Siʿaya said: persistence in a recommended (mandub)
