Sterilization demanded by one’s department

Question

I am a government employee and have four children. My department demands that I undergo an operation as part of family planning, but, being a Muslim, I have refused, (saying) that the religion of Islam does not permit it. Please give me some proof of this so that I can show it to them.

Answer

The blessed saying of the Prophet ﷺ is found in the hadiths: [ar]تَزَوَّجُوا الْوَدُودَ الْوَلُودَ فَإِنِّي أُبَاهِي بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ[/ar] “Marry the loving, child-bearing (women), for I will take pride in you before the nations” (narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa’i; Mishkat al-Masabih, p. 267).
