Question
What is the ruling on using the medicines and the like that the government has nowadays brought out so that pregnancy does not occur? What is the ruling on doing this for the sake of curbing population growth? A certain ‘alim (scholar) has done so, and the government has also made such a law.
Answer
(1) Adopting any medicine or measure by which the capacity for childbirth ends forever, or by which pregnancy does not occur, is not permissible for any Muslim. Limiting births out of fear of a large population is interference in the divine order.
