The Ruling on Slaked Lime
Question
What is the ruling on slaked lime, given that it too is nothing but ash? One kind is made from stone, which is well known; the second kind is made by burning shells (sadaf). Will there be any difference in the ruling on the two?
Answer
Eating lime in betel to the extent of need is permissible; both kinds of lime — of stone and of shell — have one and the same ruling: [ar]يباح أكل النورة مع الورق المأكول في ديار الهند لأنه قليل نافع، فإن الغرض المطلوب من الورق المذكور لا يحصل بدونها[/ar] “It is permissible to eat lime (nura)
