Burning ants, wasps and the like

Question

Question: Many people kill wasps, honeybees, ants and the like by burning them with fire. What is the status of this act of theirs?

Answer

If protection from their harm is not possible without burning them, then burning them out of necessity is also permissible. But generally protection without burning is not at all difficult, and in such a situation burning is a grave sin.
