Killing a house lizard
Question
Question: What is the Shari‘a ruling on killing a house lizard? It is widely held among the common people that there is reward (thawab) for killing it. Is this correct? We hope you will kindly give the answer with references.
Answer
In the noble hadith there is both permission and a command to kill the wazagh (وزغ), and a reward for it is also stated. Indeed, if it is killed with the first blow, a large measure of reward is stated for it; for killing it with the second blow, less than that; with the third, less than that. Such hadiths are found in “Bukhari” (vol. 1, p. 466), “Muslim” (vol. 2, p. 236)
