Washing the hands in the same dish after eating and drinking the water

Question

In Andhra some Muslims hold the belief (‘aqida) that after eating, washing one’s hands in the dish from which one ate, cleaning the dish and drinking that water is a sunna. In the book of Hazrat Imam Ghazali ﵀, “Kimiya-yi Sa‘adat” (“The Alchemy of Happiness”) (vol. 1, “Adab al-Ta‘am”), the reward of the virtue of freeing one slave is written for this case; those people cite this book as their reference. Kindly inform us of the correct form of this matter; it will be a favour.

Answer

Encouragement to clean the dish has come in the noble hadith, and that the dish prays for the forgiveness of sin is also established; but the form you have written about — I do not recall having seen it in any hadith.
