The Purification of the Ahl al-Bayt (the Verse of Purification)

Question

Are Hazrat ‘Ali, Fatima, Hasan and Husayn ﵃ the referents and addressees of the Verse of Purification (ayat al-tathir) or not? And is it correct to call only the pure wives [of the Prophet ﷺ] the “Qur’anic Ahl al-Bayt” and not to call these personages the “Qur’anic Ahl al-Bayt”, or not?

Answer

In the Verse of Purification: [ar]إِنَّمَا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ لِيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمُ ٱلرِّجْسَ أَهْلَ ٱلْبَيْتِ وَيُطَهِّرَكُمْ تَطْهِيرًا[/ar] “Allah only wishes to remove impurity from you, O People of the House (Ahl al-Bayt), and to purify you thoroughly” (Surah al-Ahzab, 33:33)
