Silver rupees were borrowed: in which rupees are they to be repaid now

Question

Question: Umar had dealings with Zayd; for example, Zayd owed Umar 936 rupees of principal, and the rest was interest. In this situation Umar filed a suit against Zayd and fought a very heavy court case over it; both parties spent a good deal of money, and Umar lost the case. Zayd did not give Umar his money when he demanded it, but kept acknowledging (the debt). The rupees Zayd had taken were silver, and at that time that very coin was in circulation — there were no banknotes.

Answer

Taking interest is haram, and giving it is also haram; in the noble hadith a curse has come upon the one who takes and the one who gives interest. Therefore interest must never be demanded, nor should interest be paid; so the matter of interest is entirely finished. It is not understood why, if Zayd acknowledged (the debt)
