Selling tobacco mixed with a cheap admixture
Question
Zayd has been trading in tobacco for a long time. Formerly the price of every commodity was low, so tobacco was sold with only molasses mixed into it; at that time, even by selling tobacco at two seers (a seer being a unit of weight, ≈ 0.93 kg), one’s wage for the labour came to hand. But since everything became expensive, every kind of difficulty has arisen, and the government tax and levies on tobacco have become even greater.
Answer
If he discloses to the buyers that it also contains an admixture and that it is not pure, then it is correct; but if he sells it calling it pure, then this is deception, which is impermissible and a sin.
