Selling the Hides before the Sacrifice Has Taken Place
Question
Here the members of Madrasa Islamiyya, Sherkot, sold the hides of the sacrificial animals before the sacrifice had even taken place. Is this sale permissible or void (batil)? And is the sacrifice of those offering it valid according to the Sharia, or void?
Answer
Such a sale of the hides of sacrificial animals is not permissible; the sacrifice of those offering it will be valid according to the Sharia. After an animal has been slaughtered in the Sharʿi manner, selling its hide even without tanning is permissible according to the Sharia; but if the animal dies, selling its hide without tanning is not permissible.
