Taking a large profit in trade from a needy pauper is contrary to magnanimity
Question
Question: I run a shop and sell goods at a profit. Many people say: “You take whatever profit you please, and taking a large profit is haram.” So how much profit should I take on one rupee? Or should I sell things without any profit?
Answer
Trade is undertaken precisely for profit, and taking profit is permissible; however, taking a large profit from a needy pauper is contrary to magnanimity (muruwwa).
