How Much Profit May Be Taken on One Rupee

Question

In trade, what is the maximum profit permissible to take on one rupee?

Answer

In the Shari‘a there is no restriction regarding this; but taking such a profit as is customarily (‘urf) regarded as excessive — and especially from a poor person in need — is contrary to magnanimity (muruwwa) and is makruh.
