The Customs of the Night of Mid-Sha‘ban

Question

What is the ruling on cooking halwa (a sweet dish of semolina or flour cooked in ghee) on the night of mid-Sha‘ban (Laylat al-Bara’a) and on taking special care to clean the houses? What ruling does the Sacred Law give regarding illuminating the houses and the graveyard on that night, and perfuming and scenting them with aloeswood (‘ud)

Answer

To call the matters asked about sunna is without proof, and for the coming of the souls of the departed elders and the pious there is no strong proof: the narrations that are cited [for it] are not sound in the view of the hadith scholars.
