The Deeds of the Night of Mid-Sha‘ban

Question

(1) Which deeds on the night of mid-Sha‘ban (Laylat al-Bara’a) are sunna, and which are forbidden? (2) Is it permissible or not, on the occasion of the night of mid-Sha‘ban, to prepare halwa (a sweet dish of semolina or flour cooked in ghee) and to have the customary fatiha recited over it in the name of Hazrat Uways al-Qarani? If it is impermissible, then why? Substantiate it with rational and textual proofs; and further, if doing so is a sin, then which kind of sin is it — makruh or haram? (3)

Answer

(1) Performing voluntary (nafl) worship at night, then fasting during the day, and — if the opportunity arises — quietly going to the graveyard and making du‘a for the good of the deceased: these are the deeds that are to be done.
